I've wrote several articles about Scuttle (Description of Scuttle,Removing Spam Accounts, Howto Blacklist Spam Accounts), this article shows how to impliment a much needed (imho) Approve User component to Scuttle.

Scuttle is an open source bookmark manager (see here for more info). If you set up your own scuttle instance on your public web server you will no doubt run into spammers who create their own accounts for illicit purposes. This entry shows how you can enhance scuttle to provide a scuttle page for administering users (e.g. remove users).

There are several ways to deal with this issue (captcha, denying the ability for users to create their own account, etc); however, scuttle does have a basic whitelist/blacklist function that can provide a basic, quick, and easy approach to handling spammers.

Scuttle is an open source web-based bookmark manager (very similar to http://del.icio.us). You can get Scuttle from SourceForge and install it on your own website or, if you prefer not to go through all of the work or do not have a web site check out my Scuttle site on Adercon.com. You can register and set up your own account for free!
